Explanations for some signs......

Could somebody please advise what the following signs indicate?

1. A large 'W'.

2. An 'A'.

3. A 'P'. (Is this to advise to sound the horn?)

4. A 'dome' or 'semi-circle'.

5. An 'F'.

This means "Wait here until the white light is on"

2. An 'A'.

This sign marks the beginning of a speed restriction (orange: temporary, white: permanent)

3. A 'P'. (Is this to advise to sound the horn?)

Correct. The german word for 'sounding the horn' is 'pfeifen'.

4. A 'dome' or 'semi-circle'.

I think you mean this one:

(In Zusi there is no inscription). It means "stop for all shunting trains". It marks the border of the station.

5. An 'F'.

This means 'Fernsprecher' (telephone). The box contains a simple telephone which you can use to call the next dispatcher.

Thank you very much for those explanations....and yes, the 'dome' or 'semi-circle' to which I referred has no markings on it, so I guess that's the one.
(The US interpretation would be "yard limit", incidentally.)

Now they all make sense to me.

hmm ... the name for the German "Gymnasium" is grammar school, I thought. So he would be a grammar school teacher. Or are the new teachers called high school teachers due to the changes made in the field of the certificate names?

Not so sure about that, but the Bavarian government is currently working on reducing the Gymnasium to high school level (8 instead of 9 years, 60% less content )

Usually you have every 200m a so called "Hektometertafel" besides the track. On electrified lines these signs are placed at the catenary (masts?).

Be happy that you have to handle Bavarian circumstances! Here in Lower Saxony the school system is much worse. After the intra German PISA Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg were at the upper level, the social democratic northern states were at the other side. I think our realschulen even cannot reach the level of your hauptschulen.

To get a little bit more on-topic: Like the school system the public transport is very bad in Lower Saxony. To improve the operating of the tramway here in Brunswick is almost inpossible.

Why should they ?
In university courses have the same starting point than in germany at least in the first semesters. It just reminds me of my first course in mathematics. The professor evidenced the existance of the "number zero". It took two hours to present the evidence to the students.
