Coordinating the translation of the documentation

I forgot to mention: I'd like to translate some chapters on "Bahntechnik", maybe the parts of signalling because due to my job as Fahrdienstleiter I'm quite familiar with that.

A dictionary as a reference for various Zusi keywords. Without such a dictionary I'm afraid that the same term will be translated differently by different people which will cause lots of confusion.

Of course such a dictionary will be a work-in-progress task itself, but I think Oliver's listing of the chapter captions is already the start of it.

The "Datenformate" are full of important keywords. Therefore I suggest that someone translates this chapter as early as possible. I don't think that I am fit enough for this task, but I offer the translation of the "Verwaltung".

I think this offer will be of great assistance to get all the different parts together. There are a lot of people with different language ability working on the translations so the results will be very different. So it should be a task for the native speakers to help us putting some kind of conistent style on the hole document.

I just looked a the wiki software and I'm sure that this is something we can use. Does anybode like to setup one ?

It depends on how much time someone can spend on this project. Speaking for me I try to get my part translated until the end of february as I'm writing two class exercises at the beginning of february.

if you're still interested in information on Wikis:

In the German computer magazine c't, 25/2003, pp. 202 ff., there was a comparison of several wikis, ranging from simple to complex but efficient ones, from easy usability to a rather cryptic interface. The following statements do not cover my personal opinion, but are rather intended as a short abstract of the comparison.

The aforementioned Wikipedia (including affiliates like Wiktionary) uses MediaWiki, which is very efficient even for a large amount of data, but no easy to begin with. It uses php and mysql.

Easier to use but (sometimes significantly) slower (10 to 45 times) are UseModWiki (perl, proprietary database format) and MoinMoin (python, plain text "database").

TWiki can crash for large data or complex searches, but otherwise comparable to MoinMoin with respect to usability and runtime.

So I'll also try to translate my part until the end of february. That sounds possible.

Auf Deutsch: Der Zeithorizont "Ende Februar" scheint mir möglich. Man sollte nichts überstürzen, denn es wird sicher nicht einfach. Ins Blaue hineinübersetzen ist nicht sinnvoll, abgesehen daveon gibt es Spezialausdrücke zuhauf.

A propos Spezialausdrücke: Könnte jemand (der Koordinator - Oli?) die schon vorhandenen Überetzungen der bahnspezifischen Worte sammeln und den Mitgliedern der Arbeitsgruppen "im Gesammelten" zukommen lassen? Das würde wohl die Sucherei vereinfachen...

I have translated my part of the documentation. I will zip it up (its a html file with a small image, about 9k altogether) and email it to you for reviewing, if you don't mind. I didn't run the spell checker though, so there might be some spelling errors. It would be nice, if you could give me some feed back on it. Unfortunately it is only a section about railway operation, so it doesn't help you much in your effort to create a track. But I don't know the editors myself in order to translate those.
