Coordinating the translation of the documentation

it looks like we have a few people willing to help translating the documentation. We may can organise it here!

I mentioned within this thread, that I would like to support the 'Bahntechnik'-chapter.

The best thing would be to have one person to coordinate the translation. as mentioned earlier, we have some folks who are willing to help, but it would be senseless if two ore more guys do the same work.

So who wants to be the "boss" of translation?

Concerning translations of difficult words such as mentioned above, I'd like to offer our (my and my girlfriend's) help. She speaks English fluently because it is her mother-tongue. Of course she speaks German fluently, too. So she can tell us if "terrain modeler" makes sense in English. And, of course, we should think about English grammar. We can't translate Zusi word by word, it wouldn't make sense at all...

Okay, I guess I start translating the 'Bahntechnik'-chapter and start with subchapter PZB90. I worked with INA backfitting within my company, thus I think I am familiar with that topic. And it is not bad to read this chapter again and again (and again and again). There will be a time, when I have all the speeds and modi in my head, I am sure !!!

I tried to translate a few lines to test my english, but there are so much words i can't translate (for example: Vogelperspektive, dictonary says: birds eyes view, hmmm maybe it is not so difficult i think in the moment). Im think my english isn't quite well , to do that. So i decided to offer my help with the screenshots in the documentation. Translating the screenshots in the documentation... or is it the job for the people, which are translating their chapter ?

One suggestion: i think, for example, a thread on the top of the forum, where all the technical terms are listed in german <--> english is not bad. So can everybody look up the words ... and the name is all time the same in the document ...
Person 1: track editor

Person 3: route builder and so one.
So we must not search all the topics to find technical terms

I forgot to mention: I'd like to translate some chapters on "Bahntechnik", maybe the parts of signalling because due to my job as Fahrdienstleiter I'm quite familiar with that.

It's now on Oli to coordinate.....

Another suggestion:

A dictionary as a reference for various Zusi keywords. Without such a dictionary I'm afraid that the same term will be translated differently by different people which will cause lots of confusion.

Of course such a dictionary will be a work-in-progress task itself, but I think Oliver's listing of the chapter captions is already the start of it.

Is there any toolkit available to maintain such a dictionary on a web server?

Look for one of the various wiki packages. There are several working pretty well with php and either mysql or plain text files. I don't know their names right now, but I remember having read a comparison of some of them in a magazine at home. Maybe tomorrow I can tell you more.

For example web sites look at http://www.wiktionary.org/ (dictionary) or http://www.wikipedia.org/ (encyclopedia).
